What Is ASLA 2026 First Look?

The ASLA 2026 Conference on Landscape Architecture begins before attendees arrive in Los Angeles. On Wednesday, July 29, ASLA will launch its inaugural ASLA 2026 First Look: Virtual Learning Day—a brand-new online event designed to kick off this year's conference with exclusive education, behind-the-scenes access, and a preview of what’s ahead in September. Built around the conference theme, Action! Design in Motion, Work in Progress, First Look offers attendees the opportunity to earn 2.0 PDH while joining the conversation before the in-person conference begins.

What You’ll Experience

First Look features two live education sessions and an inside look at the ASLA 2026 Conference:

• Action! Narrative Landscapes: Storytelling, Ecology, and the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art (1.0 PDH | LA CES/HSW): Go behind the scenes with Studio-MLA to explore the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art landscape at Exposition Park. Through field footage and project insights, discover how ecology, biodiversity, and storytelling come together to create a living "narrative forest."
• On the Record: A Landscape Architecture Conversation (1.0 PDH | LA CES/non-HSW): Experience a brand-new ASLA session format as Christine Ten Eyck, FASLA, and David Godshall, ASLA, engage in an unscripted, peer-to-peer conversation inspired by the "Actors on Actors" tradition.
• Inside ASLA 2026: A preview of the September conference, highlighting educational programming, networking opportunities, the EXPO, and tips for making the most of your experience in Los Angeles.

How to Attend First Look

There are three ways to participate in this inaugural event:

1. Already registered? If you have already registered for the ASLA 2026 Conference on Landscape Architecture, First Look is included with your registration at no additional cost. Simply log in to the ASLA Online Learning platform to claim your spot.

2. Joining us in LA? Register for the ASLA 2026 Conference by 11:59 p.m. ET on July 28, and you will receive complimentary access to First Look as part of your full conference registration.

3. Attending Virtually? If you cannot make it to Los Angeles—or are still deciding—you can register for First Look as a standalone virtual event. This is an ideal way to earn 2.0 PDH and experience exclusive programming from anywhere.

Recordings Available

If you aren't able to join us live on July 29, don't worry. All First Look sessions will be recorded and made available for on-demand access on the ASLA Online Learning website, allowing you to catch up on the sessions at your convenience.
