Meet the New ASLA President

Eugenia M. Martin, FASLA, PLA

ASLA has installed Eugenia M. Martin, FASLA, PLA, as its president for the 2021-2022 term. Martin was sworn in during the President's Dinner at the ASLA 2021 Annual Meeting and EXPO in Nashville. She succeeds Tom Mroz, FASLA.

In her remarks, Martin acknowledged the change ASLA has experienced over the past few years and the need to embrace the change. She highlighted the connection to students and emerging professionals as the future of landscape architecture as well as the importance of diversity in landscape architecture -- from designers to project managers, in the private and public sector. She also pointed out that as the 77th president of ASLA, and only the 11th woman president, the metrics need to change to reflect more women in leadership.

“When I started on this journey, I mentioned the one constant is change…and change we have. It is an exciting time to be a part of ASLA as we embark on implementing the new strategic plan alongside our new CEO,” Martin said. “I promise to be mindful through this journey, listening and hearing what you have to share. I also call on all of you to be a part of this journey, to be a part of the change and finding our future.”

Martin has practiced landscape architecture and planning throughout Ohio in both the private and public sectors.  She is a Senior Project Manager for The Ohio State University Wexner on the Medical Center team in Columbus, Ohio. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in landscape architecture from The Ohio State University.
