Restitching Communities with Landscapes: Climate Justice Strategies in the Pacific Northwest
Thursday, October 21, 2021
3:00 p.m. ET/12:00 p.m. PT
Hosted by the ASLA Climate Action Committee

The ASLA Climate Action Committee is building a network of representatives from each ASLA chapter and neighboring accredited programs to convene expertise on existing and predicted climate change challenges for each region. Join a group of practitioners, community activists, and educators from the Northern Pacific Coast (ASLA Chapters from Oregon, Washington, and Alaska), who will lead a discussion on possible ways landscape architects can design and plan strategies to mitigate and adapt to the effects of climate change in our region. Speakers will highlight the connections of landscape architecture practice and education to key regional climate justice issues, including case studies for addressing our unique set of challenges that impact communities unevenly – droughts, heatwaves; wildfires; sea level rise, inland flooding and coastal erosion; receding glaciers and melting permafrost. Their talks will explore approaches to building resilience for Pacific Coast residents, with an emphasis on front line communities, such as indigenous, low-income, and unhoused, who are most impacted by these changes.
