CLARB has donated $500,000 to the ASLA Fund to launch the CLARB Exam Success Grants—a reimbursement-based program designed to help eligible L.A.R.E. candidates in financial need cover exam costs and remove financial barriers on the path to licensure, subject to program requirements.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The CLARB Exam Success Grants is a reimbursement-based program funded by CLARB and administered by the ASLA Fund. It is designed to reduce financial barriers to licensure for eligible L.A.R.E. candidates who demonstrate financial need and have limited access to other financial support.

Who Can Apply?

The CLARB Exam Success Grants is intended for candidates pursuing landscape architecture licensure who meet the eligibility requirements for the applicable examination cycle.

Apply for the CLARB Exam Success Grants 
✓ Eligible to pursue landscape architecture licensure
✓ Active L.A.R.E. candidate in a CLARB member jurisdiction
✓ Registered, or meet registration requirements, for the applicable exam cycle
✓ No access to employer reimbursement, GI Bill benefits, a 529 plan, or other licensure assistance covering exam fees

Apply When Exam Registration Opens

Submit your application for the CLARB Exam Success Grants when the exam application window opens.

ASLA Fund Reviews Applications

The ASLA Fund reviews eligibility and financial need to select grant recipients.

Take the Exam

Sit for your scheduled section of the Landscape Architect Registration Examination (L.A.R.E.).

CLARB Verifies Results

CLARB confirms successful completion and passing results directly with the ASLA Fund.

Receive Reimbursement

Approved recipients receive reimbursement for their exam fees. You can apply again for subsequent sections as you advance.

Frequently Asked Questions

The grant reimburses eligible L.A.R.E. candidates in financial need for exam costs — approximately $545 per section—subject to program requirements. Reimbursement is issued after you pass each exam and your application is approved.

Candidates will need to apply for the CLARB Exam Success Grants each time they register for an L.A.R.E. section.This rolling model means financial need is reassessed over time and support follows your progress through the exam process.

The CLARB Exam Success Grants are funded by CLARB and administered by the ASLA Fund. CLARB verifies exam passage; the ASLA Fund reviews eligibility and issues reimbursement payments.

Financial need is assessed primarily through attestation — you self-certify your need as part of the application. You may choose to provide brief written statements describing the financial barriers or circumstances affecting your progress toward licensure. The program is designed to minimize documentation barriers so more candidates can access support.

Application for grants roughly coincide with L.A.R.E. exam registration opening dates.
