Greening Communities with Landscape Advisory Panels (LAPs)

Bringing expert landscape design assistance to underserved communities across the United States.

ASLA Fund and Honda: Planning for a Resilient Future—Turning Climate Goals into Real Plans

We are proud to announce that the ASLA Fund has received a $75,000 contribution from Honda to expand our Landscape Advisory Panels nationwide. This partnership directly supports our mission to provide expert design technical assistance to 5–6 community-led projects in 2026.

Many communities across the U.S. have big ideas for greener, healthier neighborhoods — but they lack the technical planning resources to make those ideas a reality. Honda's contribution allows the ASLA Fund to step in and provide exactly that: free, expert landscape design assistance through our Landscape Advisory Panel (LAP) program.

We are incredibly grateful for Honda’s support, which allows us to bridge the ‘missing middle’ in community planning. By connecting underserved communities with the expert design technical assistance of Landscape Advisory Panels, we are helping local leaders turn their climate goals into shovel-ready projects that will protect residents from extreme heat and manage stormwater for generations to come.

What are Landscape Advisory Panels (LAPs)?

The Honda contribution will support the development of 5–6 Landscape Advisory Panels (LAPs) across the United States. These panels are specifically designed to help communities that have the will to implement nature-based solutions—such as urban forests and bioswales—but lack the initial planning resources to qualify for large-scale federal and state infrastructure funding. By providing this "early stage" design expertise, the ASLA Fund and Honda are empowering local communities to compete for the billions of dollars available in climate-resiliency grants, ultimately leading to healthier, more equitable, and more resilient neighborhoods.

What Landscape Advisory Panels (LAPs) address:

Landscape Advisory Panels (LAPs) help communities plan and design nature-based solutions that address some of the most pressing environmental and public health challenges facing neighborhoods today.

🌡️ Extreme Heat

Urban tree canopy, shade structures, and green corridors help cool neighborhoods, reducing temperatures and protecting vulnerable residents from extreme heat.

💧 Flooding & Stormwater Management

Rain gardens, bioswales, and permeable surfaces reduce runoff and manage stormwater, helping protect communities from flooding.

🌿 Carbon, Air & Water Quality

Strategic landscape design improves air and water quality by sequestering carbon, filtering pollutants, and supporting healthier local ecosystems.
