You may be dreaming about the beach right now, but things are by no means quietening down for the summer (at least not yet—ask me again once the humidity hits). In addition to a full slate of upcoming webinars, with several offering free professional development hours (LA CES PDH) for members, there's also new additions (and a few ongoing classics) to round up from ASLA's RFQs, Opportunities, and Events page.

RFP: On-Call Landscape Plan Review and Inspection Services

California's City of Solana Beach Community Development Department is seeking proposals from qualified consulting firm(s) for landscape architectural plan review and site inspection services for private development projects and projects on City owned property. The City anticipates selecting one firm or landscape architect to provide consulting services.

Design Masterclass: The Plant Systems Revolution

June 21, 2025

Join Thomas Rainer, ASLA, for a three-hour master class on ecological landscape design. This program teaches you how to create low-maintenance plantings by mimicking naturally occurring plant communities. Explore plant systems thinking, layer plants in biodiverse assemblages, and practice design skills.

Pennsylvania Avenue Initiative Online Public Briefing

June 24, 2025

The Pennsylvania Avenue Initiative consultant team, led by Land Collective and HR&A, is working with agency partners to develop the New Pennsylvania Avenue Plan that will beautify public spaces, upgrade aging infrastructure, and create efficient stewardship. When complete, the plan will lay the framework for the Avenue as a stage for awe-inspiring events and a beautiful setting for everyday life. The National Capital Planning Commission is hosting public briefings to provide an update on the project’s progress and to answer questions.

EUROPAN 18 Ideas Competition: Re-sourcing

Europan is a platform for young professionals of urban, landscape and architectural design under 40 and a thematic competition of ideas / projects of architecture, urbanism and landscape, followed by implementation processes. It is a tool for European cities and urban actors to find and develop innovative strategies for their sites in transformation.

New Directions in the American Landscapes Ecology-based Landscape Practice 7-part Virtual Intensive Course for Professionals

July 8-August 26, 2025

Join landscape designer Larry Weaner, Affil. ASLA, and native plant expert Ian Caton on a deep dive into the integration of restoration ecology and garden design. From technical instruction to personal anecdotes, Larry and Ian will share over 70 years of combined experience on the fine points of designing, planting, and managing ecology-based landscapes. Participants will have the opportunity to compare notes and interact with instructors during two post-program conversational sessions.

ASLA Emerging Professionals Design Competition: Beyond Boundaries

Calling all emerging professionals in landscape architecture! Showcase your creativity, innovation, and design excellence in the ASLA Emerging Professionals Design Competition. This opportunity invites early-career landscape architecture professionals and students to tackle real-world challenges, gain national recognition, and elevate your portfolio.

Mirroring the theme of the 2025 ASLA Conference, the inaugural Emerging Professionals Design Competition invites emerging professional ASLA members to reimagine a new design for Harmony Circle in New Orleans, Louisiana, with the theme “Beyond Boundaries.”

Historic American Landscapes Survey (HALS) Challenge: Landscapes of Roadside America

Deadline: July 31, 2025

The annual HALS Challenge competition encourages landscape architects, students, and other interested parties to document historic landscapes in their communities. To enter the competition, participants must complete a historical report that highlights the history, significance, and character-defining features of the surveyed landscape. Voices of Women in Landscape Architecture: Call for WILA Profile Submissions

The ASLA Women in Landscape Architecture Professional Practice Network (WILA PPN)'s call for submissions from women in the profession remains open. All are welcome to share this call—the PPN hopes to highlight diverse voices of landscape architects, including those who are active in their chapters or in their local communities, with perspectives from all career path stages, wherever that path may be taking you. Profiles are being shared on social media and here on The Field to celebrate women in landscape architecture who are shaping our environment.
