Howard University Middle School of Mathematics and Science

National ASLA partnered with the Howard University Middle School of Mathematics and Science (HU-MS2) on PARK(ing) Day. Jeff Holzer, ASLA, from the Potomac Chapter, led the week-long activities, which will include a mini course on landscape architecture and a walking tour of the Howard University campus designed by African American landscape architect, David Williston. Students also participated in a design charrette where students sketch their ideas for a pollinator-themed parklet, then built their final sketches using Minecraft. Students then construct their designs on parklets located on campus. Their parklet included a pollinator frequency test stand and potted flowers.

HU-MS2, a leading STEM school in Washington, DC and is the only Historically Black College and University to host a public charter middle school on campus, demonstrating their commitment to creating a pipeline to STEM careers.
