Participate Government Affairs Pilot Program

As state legislative sessions begin convening, ASLA's State Government Affairs team is piloting a proactive advocacy initiative and welcome additional chapter participation.

The Concept:
Most legislative outreach is reactive—we contact offices when a bill is already in motion. This pilot focuses on a "Welcome & Resource" message sent to legislators at the start of the session. The goal is to introduce (or re-introduce) the landscape architecture profession and position the chapter as a nonpartisan subject matter expert before the legislative calendar becomes crowded.

Why Participate?

  • Proactive Positioning: It frames landscape architects as partners and resources.
  • Low Lift: A template is ready for you to use; requires minimal customization to fit your Chapter/State needs.
  • Platform Leverage: We will use the iAdvocate platform to handle the distribution, making it a "turnkey" project for chapter leadership.
What is required from the Chapter?
If you choose to participate, the State Government Affairs team would need:
  1. A quick review of the template to ensure it aligns with your chapter’s current priorities.
  2. Customize with one or two brief examples of local projects to make the message resonate with state legislators.
  3. A designated point of contact (e.g., Chapter President or Advocacy Chair) to list as the resource for any follow-up inquiries.

The goal of this initiative is to test this "Welcome" outreach with a few chapters to see how it impacts your relationship-building efforts with state houses.

If this interests you, review the template and contact Bradley Rawls as soon as possible.

Chapter Reports Tool

The ASLA System Team has created an innovative solution to improve the chapter reports—both the data you receive and how easily you can access it. We’re excited to launch our AI-powered, self‑service report request tool. While it has been tested by several chapters, by its nature, we expect there may still be some bugs; please let us know if you find any.  Also, expect some maintenance tool as we launch more reports over the next couple of weeks.

Who has access? Any current Chapter ExCom member can request chapter member data by sending an email to [email protected]

Keep in Mind: Results are generated by AI and may vary based on how the request is phrased.

How to Access Your Reports

  • Email your report request to: [email protected]
  • Example requests:
    • "Provide the current chapter roster.”
    • “Provide the members due to renew on 3/31/2026.”
  • Include timeframes where helpful (e.g., new member or lapsed member report requests): “from 7/1/2025 to 9/30/2025”
  • Feel free to use your own words; natural language requests are supported
  • One request per email tends to produce clearer results
Important
  • Add ASLA’s AI Report Service email address, [email protected], to your safe sender list.
  • The chapter leader requesting the report must have an active ASLA membership.

Please share your suggestions on how we can improve the process and report any unexpected or incorrect data in the results.

Thank you for your patience as we continue enhance the chapter report process!

2025 Chapter Annual Report

Each January, the chapter Immediate Past Presidents are asked to complete an Annual Report Questionnaire regarding the previous year's programming and chapter activities.

The report serves multiple purposes:

  1. as a reference for future chapter leaders;
  2. a composite snapshot of chapter activity; and
  3. as feedback for ASLA programs that support chapters and/or depend on chapter engagement.

ASLA Bylaws require chapters to submit a year-end financial statement. If the 2025 financial statement is not yet finalized, it can be emailed when complete.

Chapter Immediate Past Presidents are requested to complete and submit by February 9, 2026.

Please follow-up with your Immediate Past President. Thank you for your time and attention to this important process.
