ASLA 2022 National Election

It's time to step up and be heard as ASLA determines its future leadership.

The annual election for 2023-2024 ASLA President-Elect will be open May 3 through June 3, 2022. All Full, Associate, and International members in good professional standing will be eligible to vote and will receive a paper and/or email ballot to participate. Here is your chance to familiarize yourself with the candidates’ concepts, aims, and biographies. In addition, two constitutional amendments are on the ballot, see information below. All Full members are eligible to vote on constitutional amendments.

ASLA has partnered with Survey & Ballot Systems to administer the 2022 election. To ensure your election email arrives safely in your inbox on or around May 3, 2022, simply add the following email address as an approved sender: noreply@directvote.net. If you have any questions contact Curt Millay.

In addition to the office of President-Elect, we have constitutional amendments on the ballot. The proposed changes to the Constitution were approved by the Board of Trustees in November 2021 and now require the vote of the full membership.

The first group of amendments in Article 5 expand the leadership and voting privileges of Associate Members to allow them to hold office on the chapter level and to vote on constitutional amendments.

The Michigan Chapter requested the amendment citing the following reasons:

  • including and promoting our emerging professionals as equal partners in shaping the direction of the Society will help to grow our next generation of leaders in the profession;
  • oftentimes, state chapters struggle with getting members to run for executive committee positions;
  • and to capture the energy, passion, and excitement of newer members interest in leadership positions.

Section 505 also grants Student Members to the right to vote for the President of the Society.

The second group of amendments in Article 7 are updates to reflect the current nomenclature for the chief executive of the Society.

The amendments appear below in red:

FIRST GROUP OF AMENDMENTS:

Article 5.  Voting and Leadership Privileges

501.    Full Members shall have the right to vote on all matters requiring a vote by the membership. Full Members may hold national office in the Society or office in a chapter.

502.    Associate Members shall have the right to vote for national officers of the Society, officers of a chapter, amendments to the Constitution, and on matters requiring a vote by Associate Members. Associate Members shall not hold national office or serve as a trustee but may hold office as a president, president-elect or vice president of a chapter.

504.    Affiliate Members and Honorary Members shall not have the right to vote on any matter. Affiliate and Honorary Members shall not hold national office in the Society or office in a chapter.

505.     Student Members shall have the right to vote for national president but shall not have the right to vote on any other matter. Student Members shall not hold national office in the Society or office in a chapter.

SECOND GROUP OF AMENDMENTS

Article 7.  Board of Trustees and National Officers
