A vibrant community of volunteers are the heart of ASLA’s culture of collaboration: we are devoted to the encouragement of volunteerism and benefiting from the expertise and creativity of members who give their time and energies to advance the Society and the profession.

If you are ready to take your professional journey to the next level, volunteering for a National ASLA committee offers an unparalleled opportunity to grow, lead, and make a tangible impact on the landscape architecture community.

What’s in it for you?

  • Leadership Development and Professional Growth: Committee service is a powerful stepping stone for your leadership journey. You'll hone your skills, take on new challenges, and develop your expertise while contributing to initiatives that shape our profession.
  • Networking and Connections: Expand your professional network by collaborating with like-minded peers and industry leaders. These connections can lead to new opportunities, mentorship, and lifelong friendships.
  • Insight into ASLA Operations: Gain a behind-the-scenes look at how ASLA works. Understand the strategic decisions that drive our organization and contribute your voice to the process.
  • Team Collaboration: ASLA thrives on teamwork. As a committee member, you’ll work closely with passionate professionals who share your commitment to advancing the field of landscape architecture.

Why are committees important?

Our committees are the backbone of ASLA’s mission. They drive the initiatives that support our members, promote the profession, and influence policy. Your participation helps ensure that our projects and programs reflect the diverse needs and perspectives of our community.

Together, we can achieve great things!

The next National ASLA committee term is October 9, 2024 – October 13, 2025. Most committee terms are one year. Please review the committee descriptions for more information on committee term length, goals, and responsibilities. Apply online by August 9, 2024.

Volunteer for an ASLA Committee

If you don't see a committee that's a good fit for you, friendly reminder that ASLA members may volunteer to join your Professional Practice Network’s leadership team at any time.

ASLA Outstanding Service Awards

The ASLA Outstanding Service Award program recognizes ASLA member volunteers—often committee members and PPN leaders—who are making notable contributions to or on behalf of the Society at the national level.

Each year, ASLA celebrates volunteers whose dedication goes above and beyond the call of duty at the ASLA Conference on Landscape Architecture, when the awards are presented by ASLA’s president.

ASLA trustees, committee and Professional Practice Network (PPN) chairs and members, ASLA representatives, and other volunteers involved in the work of the Society at the national level are eligible for the award.
