ASLA’s third woman president, Claire Bennett, FASLA, recalls her pioneering achievements in a conversation with current ASLA President Eugenia Martin, FASLA.

Bennett sat with Martin, to share experiences and lessons from her term as ASLA President.

Bennett, FASLA, a native of Vermont, served as ASLA President in 1990-1991. After graduating with an A.B. in architectural sciences from Radcliffe College and completing the first year of an M. Arch. at Harvard Graduate School of Design, Bennett moved to Indianapolis in 1958 to launch her distinguished career in landscape architecture. This year at ASLA’s 2022 Conference on Landscape Architecture, a first in ASLA history will take place. At the President’s Dinner on Monday, November 14th ASLA will install new officers. It will be the first time in ASLA’s history that women will serve in the role of President, Incoming President and President Elect. To commemorate this special moment current ASLA President Eugenia Martin, FASLA, met with Claire Bennett at her home in Indianapolis. Watch and enjoy the discussion here. It was truly a sentimental journey “down memory lane,” in which Claire Bennett shared many insights from her career as well as her proudest moment: serving as ASLA President.
