ASLA is excited to announce the upcoming release of its latest Career Discovery resource, Schoolyards in Bloom: Exploring Pollinators Through Landscape Architecture, a vibrant new educational poster project designed for students in grades K–8.

A product of the 2024 DREAM BIG with Design: TEACHER’S EDITION, Schoolyards in Bloom offers a hands-on learning experience that introduces students to the role of landscape architecture in supporting pollinators and healthy ecosystems.

Schoolyards in Bloom will be available this summer as a two-part toolkit for educators and students in grades K–5 and grades 6–8.

Materials are tailored to support age-appropriate exploration and engagement, making it easy for educators to bring science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) learning to life through real-world landscape design concepts.

Schoolyards in Bloom embodies key attributes that deliver:

  • Thought Leadership by Landscape Architects
  • Direct Investment in Outdoor Design School Projects
  • Digital Curriculum and Career Videos
  • Signature Programming
  • ASLA Member Engagement

Rooted in STEAM learning principles, the Schoolyards in Bloom toolkit is designed to inspire curiosity and creativity across grade levels.

The toolkit includes:

  • User-friendly lesson guides
  • Design-focused vocabulary to help students think and speak like landscape architects
  • A vibrant educational poster to explore together and spark meaningful conversations
  • Hands-on activities that encourage learning both at home and in outdoor settings
  • Ideas for real-world connections to local parks, neighborhoods, and community spaces

A standout feature of Schoolyards in Bloom is its emphasis on student-created artistic and scientific deliverables. From collages and illustrations to charts, models, and interactive games, students are invited to express what they’ve learned through engaging, creative projects.

Stay tuned for the launch of this inspiring new resource - perfect for classrooms, afterschool programs, and schoolyard learning adventures!

ASLA's Schoolyards in Bloom would not be possible without the support of the TBG and the ASLA Fund.
