Olmsted Network Introduces New Ways to Experience Olmsted Parks & Places

Introducing the new and improved Olmsted.org. Image by the Olmsted Network

Olmsted Network is delighted to share our new and improved Olmsted.org! The site serves as the hub for Olmsted parks, places and people, and it’s a great resource for anyone who loves parks, urban design, landscape architecture and historic landscapes.

As you navigate the site, you’ll find the rich content available on our old site with some exciting changes and improvements:

Research: Research materials are easier to access and navigate than ever before. And we are pleased to announce that The Papers of Frederick Law Olmsted are now open access. Thanks to a generous subvention from the Olmsted Network, with support from The Caroline Loughlin Fund, everyone will now have open access to a vast collection of Olmsted’s written materials. This digitized version of the Papers includes Volumes 1- 9 and Supplementary Series 1. The Olmsted Network is honored to partner with the University of Virginia Press on this important initiative to promote research and writing about Olmsted’s living legacy.

National Calendar: Looking for scheduled programming, unique partner events, our conferences? The Olmsted Network national calendar is bustling with events across the country. We invite ASLA chapters to take full advantage of the calendar by submitting their events – live and virtual – and sharing calendar offerings like history webinars with their members.

Olmstead_Main2Expert panelists gathered on July 25 for a riveting conversation on the importance of caring for Olmsted parks and places in their communities.

Just two weeks ago, Associated Press climate reporter Melina Walling, urban planner Victor Dover, and park leaders Jennifer Ott and Julia Raskin gathered for the 15th installment of our popular Conversations with Olmsted webinar series. You can watch Conversations with Olmsted: Stewarding Olmsted Parks & Places— and all other episodes— here.

You’ll also find a new Conferences & Symposia page, to highlight annual conferences. This year, join us for three days of education— and inspiration— in Wisconsin! This year's conference includes expert presentations from Roy Diblik, Jens Jensen, Arleyn Levee and others along with special tours of iconic Olmsted landscapes in Milwaukee and Lake Geneva. While we're in town, we'll also host our annual awards dinner on the rooftop terrace of the Grohmann Museum and visit the Lakefront Brewery. Conference tickets are available for $250 until early bird ends on August 15. Learn more!

And last but certainly not least, visit our new Olmsted Trail, allowing visitors to learn about and experience Olmsted landscapes from coast to coast.

Stay up-to-date on all of the exciting things happening at the Olmsted Network and at Olmsted parks and places across the country by joining our mailing list and following along on social media @OlmstedNetwork.
