Sahar Coston-Hardy, Affiliate ASLA, Wins a Grant from Women Photograph

The photographer Sahar Coston-Hardy, Affiliate ASLA, was selected as one of five 2020 Women Photograph + Nikon Grant recipients for the project, “The Spaces in Between.”

The grant recognizes women and non-binary artists in visual journalism and is part of Women Photograph’s overall mission to elevate women and non-binary photographers. The Washington Post recently published a piece on the grantees that featured Sahar’s winning project.

Coston-Hardy’s project is part of an ongoing research collaboration with Jennifer Reut, Landscape Architecture Magazine senior editor, on the landscape of the Green Book, the 20th-century travel guide published for Black travelers during segregation.

The project is focused on a family in Springfield, Missouri, that owned and operated Alberta’s Hotel, a property listed in the Green Book. The grant will help the team translate Coston-Hardy’s existing work to a wider audience and also begin an ambitious new phase. Coston-Hardy is a contributing editor at LAM, and her work can be seen most recently on the May and July 2020 covers.
