People & Culture Coordinator

The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) is the national professional association for landscape architects, representing more than 15,000 members. Landscape architects lead the planning, design, and stewardship of healthy, equitable, safe, and resilient environments. Landscape architecture includes both iconic and neighborhood places, including commercial developments, streetscapes, green roofs, parks, civic spaces, memorials, and residential communities. The Society’s mission is to advance landscape architecture through advocacy, communication, education, and fellowship.

ASLA is recruiting for a detail-oriented, high energy People & Culture Coordinator to join our team. You will be responsible for the accurate bi-monthly processing of payroll for our team and effective day-to-day service in the following areas: benefits administration, recruiting, onboarding, record keeping and HRIS administration.

Key Responsibilities:
 
Payroll
  • Ensure timely and error-free processing of bi-monthly payroll.
  • Manage workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and in a timely manner. Audit time cards for completion and accuracy and import time clock data to payroll processing.
  • Review, analyze and verify payroll reports and documents for accuracy; make necessary adjustments or corrections through journal entries or other established procedures.
Benefits Administration
  • Work closely with department director to plan, develop, design, evaluate, implement, communicate and administer employee health and welfare programs.
  • Support ASLA participation in the WELL Building Standard and JUST programs. Organize wellness programs, including biennial wellness fair.  
General
  • Work closely with the department director to develop and administer a competitive compensation program, which supports the attraction and retention of qualified candidates.
  • Assist with recruitment, new employee onboarding, training & development initiatives, performance review, disciplinary, and separation processes.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Provide support to employees with various People & Culture topics such as vacation and sick leave accruals, compensation, etc., and assist in resolving any issues that may arise.
  • Maintain personnel records. Maintain employee benefits, calendar, forms, and handbook folders on the ASLA common network drive. Assist with the daily administration of offices services, telecommunications and building maintenance.
  • Enhance job satisfaction by resolving issues promptly, applying new benefits, and assist in organizing team building events.

Education and Experience:
 
  • Bachelor’s degree required.  SHRM or HRCI certification desired.
  • Minimum of 3 years of payroll and HR generalist experience.
  • Previous association/non-profit experience desired.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of payroll and human resources administration.
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal payroll and related tax regulations, legislation and guidelines including, but not limited to: writs of garnishment, child support, etc.
  • Proficiency in verbal, written, and interpersonal communication. 
  • Ability to balance heavy workload with short- and long-term project deadlines, address changing priorities, and working well under pressure. 
  • Strong technical skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office computer applications (esp. Excel) and payroll/benefits systems/software.
