Landscape Architecture Employment Outlook and Market Growth
According to 2019 data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 24,500 employees work in the landscape architecture field in the
United States. This is a growth of about 10 percent from 2014.
Approximately 18,600 landscape architects are licensed in the United
States. Licensure is required to use the title landscape architect in all 50 states and the District of

According to the most recent data
from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) and National Endowment
for the Arts (NEA), landscape architecture services contributed $2.7
billion to the U.S. economy in 2015. Total industry output was $5.3
billion and “real” industry output, which is adjusted for inflation, was
$6.68 billion. The economic valued generated by landscape architects
increased 0.4 billion from 2012, or by 17 percent.
Residential design
is the largest market sector. Most of this planning and design work
consists of single-family homes, multi-family housing, and residential
communities.
