Inclusive Play, Elevated

Landscape architects know that public spaces must inspire as much as they serve. That was the vision behind Volo Aire™, the three-story playground tower that's accessible all the way to the top. At 26 feet tall, Volo Aire delivers a striking architectural landmark that blends sculptural beauty with immersive play. Its open-weave LSI Flexx™ net offers a daring climb and panoramic views, while slides and interactive elements provide adventure at every level.
But height is only part of the story. Volo Aire was created to deliver inclusive thrills. A winding, fully accessible pathway allows children of all abilities to reach the top, while multiple entry and exit points ensure kids can choose their level of challenge. The result is a play experience where courage, independence and discovery are built into every detail. This philosophy of inclusion extends far beyond a single product. From playgrounds to splash pads, Landscape Structures designs play environments where children of all abilities can connect. In addition to playgrounds, splash play areas deliver a multisensory experience. Sprays and water events provide different proprioceptive input for kids, which helps regulate many kids. These spaces transform recreation into an invitation for everyone. Guiding this work is the Jr. Play Team, a group of kids from the Twin Cities with diverse physical, cognitive and sensory abilities. By testing prototypes like Volo Aire, they help us refine designs in real time. Their feedback has shaped practical improvements—such as adding mid-level slides for easier exits—while also reminding us that true inclusivity is measured in fun moments of belonging. For play space designers, the challenge is to imagine spaces that are bold, beautiful and equitable. With Volo Aire, inclusive playgrounds and splash pads shaped by kids themselves, Landscape Structures is proving that play truly is life changing.
