Call for Submissions for The Field: Finding the Bright Side

We are very interested in sustainable design as it is experienced as a facet of practice by everyday landscape architects—maybe not experts or specialists, but professionals who are eager to contribute to the sustainability profile and performance of projects. That certainly reinforces the need for best practice guidance and technical notes as part of what The Field might provide. There are many challenges and opportunities for our community to make a tangible contribution, and we would strongly like to encourage good news—wins that can keep us pushing forwards. For the PPN’s contributions to The Field, we are seeking:

  • The sustainable landscape project that brings joy and satisfaction to both the landscape architect and end users.
  • The sustainable landscape project that made a difference to a local community or stakeholder group—aesthetically, socially, environmentally, in terms of resilience.
  • The sustainable landscape project that turned a client’s head, and maybe raised the value of our work in their eyes.

In summary: sustainable landscapes as a source of good news!

Has this quest for the bright side sparked your interest? Do you have a project you’d like to share? All members are encouraged to submit for The Field. We look forward to showcasing your good news on The Field!

While you’re thinking about projects you might want to write about, take a look back at the Sustainable Design & Development PPN’s past posts, which have explored sustainable landscapes through the lenses of poetry and photography, highlighted landscape architecture students’ work, and much more.

In the past twelve months, we have broadened the lens on describing sustainable landscapes, to include photography and even poetry around landscapes and places that can make a difference to quality of life, and enrich the experience of biodiversity and climate resilience embodied in our work. We maintain these qualitative facets of the sustainable landscape are important, as well as the technical and performative aspects of projects. We hope these posts may inspire you to submit an article yourself!
