Description:

Temple Beth El of Aptos, California seeks proposals from qualified design firms and professionals for the design and permitting of a sustainable, inclusive, and functional Outdoor Worship and Learning Space (OWLS). This project will create and enhance outdoor spaces for the purposes of worship, lifecycle milestones, community gatherings, private reflection, youth and adult learning, rental opportunities and ecological stewardship.

Objective: An outdoor ‘enclosure’ adjacent to the existing social hall and sanctuary for worship and gathering to serve as an enclosed safe space, a sound barrier and as a security perimeter to mitigate unlawful intrusion. Preliminary drawings envision the enclosure as a combination of an earthen berm with an acoustically effective fence at the top of the Berm. Desired features:

  • ADA-compliant access
  • Security features including electronically locked entry way and cameras
  • Lighting, sound and pathway infrastructure
  • Stage structure with terraced seating
  • Outdoor kitchen

Site Conditions: Partial hillside, limited existing vegetation, historic trees, staircase, and proximity to existing Social hall and Sanctuary

The selected firm will be responsible for: Site analysis and conceptual design, architectural and engineering design, cost estimation and phasing, permitting and regulatory approval support.
