Central Wharf Plaza is a densely shaded urban plaza located between the Wharf District Parks and the New England Aquarium. The design, which was developed collaboratively by Reed Hilderbrand Associates and Chan Krieger NBBJ, replaced an asphalt parking lot while expanding the original site from 4,000 to 11,000 square feet by narrowing the adjacent streets.

The plaza is a deftly engineered example of urban forestry, allowing a rich canopy of 26 oak trees to create a shady oasis for neighbors, passers-by, and school children visiting the aquarium.
