Georges Island

Georges Island is one of 34 islands and peninsulas that make up the Boston Harbor Islands. The 39-acre island is the site of Fort Warren, built to defend Boston Harbor and used as a military training camp and as a Civil War prison.

Dominated by Fort Warren, a National Historic Landmark, the island today is a peaceful retreat where visitors can
picnic, stroll, or reflect on the far skyline. Georges Island is one of the two “Hub” Islands with hourly departures from
Long Wharf-North in downtown Boston; purchase your ferry ticket from Boston’s Best Cruises. You can also get to
Georges during the summer season from Hingham and Hull through Boston’s Best Cruises and from Quincy through
the MBTA.
