This historic Waterfront Park is located in an area formerly devoted to the mercantile and shipping activities from which Boston arose. The site was cleared to complete the open space and pedestrian link from City Hall Plaza via the historic Faneuil Hall Marketplace to the waterfront.

From project start to completion, Sasaki worked collaboratively with city agencies and community groups to create a park that works for both tourists and locals from the North End and waterfront communities. The original Sasaki design has been significantly modified over the years, though segments of the project’s iconic trellis remain, providing shade and spectacular views to the harbor.
