Brook Farm is a historic landmark purchased by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation in 1988. The farm is most famously recognized for its development by George Ripley in the early 1840’s. "Brook Farm Institute of Agriculture and Education" was once host to 120 members, some of which included Nathaniel Hawthorne, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Margaret Fuller.

The farm has decayed through the years. A majority of the old pathways and grounds are not easily accessible. It's the DCR’s hope to work towards a productive restoration of the site and promote pedestrian use.
