As spring arrives across the northern hemisphere, Olmsted 200 events and activities continue to blossom online and from coast to coast. Here are a few to highlight:

  • Today, March 22 at 3 p.m. EDT/noon PDT, Sara Zewde will be in conversation with Ethan Carr and Rolf Diamant about their new book, Olmsted and Yosemite: Civil War, Abolition and the National Park Idea. Register
  • Beyond Recreation: Climate, Social Justice, and the Urban Landscape Ahead, hosted by Portland Parks Foundation, features Vivek Shandas and CNE Corbin. The event is online and in person (Portland, Oregon) March 28 at 6 p.m. PDT. Register here.
  • If you are near or traveling to Des Moines, Iowa, don’t miss Olmsted 200 Week March 26-April 1, and if you are in Atlanta, Georgia, there will be a guided walk in Olmsted Linear Park on March 27.

Keep an eye on the Olmsted 200 events calendar for dozens more talks, walks, panels, concerts, celebrations, and exhibits coming soon.

ASLA members and chapters can join the conversation by creating your own events. Hosting an event is one of the most visible ways to celebrate Frederick Law Olmsted’s life, educate the public and policymakers about his vision, and build support for protecting his landscapes and other public green spaces for the benefit of all people.

The Olmsted 200 Event in a Box Toolkit includes everything you need to help you plan and organize your own celebration events:

  • Celebration ideas, ranging from Twitter chats and video tours to art contests and restoration efforts.
  • An event planning checklist.
  • Customizable templates for your event materials and signage.
  • And of course, don’t forget about the Landscapes for the Public Good exhibit that remains available for your use.

Add your event to the Olmsted 200 calendar.
