#FLOFriday to Highlight 2022 HALS Challenge

2022 HALS Challenge: Olmsted Landscapes

2022 marks the 13th annual Historic American Landscapes Survey (HALS) Challenge. It also marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Frederick Law Olmsted, social reformer and founder of American landscape architecture. In celebration and acknowledgement of this important event, the National Park Service, alongside the American Society of Landscape Architects and the National Association for Olmsted Parks (NAOP), is pleased to announce this year’s contest — 2022 HALS Challenge: Olmsted Landscapes.

Olmsted 200 encourages everyone to participate in the challenge, using the master list of design projects to find nearby Olmsted landscapes in need of documentation. Sites designed or planned by Frederick Law Olmsted, his firm, and the firm continued by his sons, John Charles Olmsted and Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr., are eligible.
