Weigh In: Sustainability, Sustainable Landscape Metrics, and SITES

The Sustainable SITES Initiative ®

A research team of landscape architecture educators and practitioners seeks to understand landscape architecture professionals’ knowledge, interest, and participation in sustainable landscape design and metrics.

They’ve just released a survey and are hoping you will weigh in.

The survey explores the relationship between professionals’ interest in sustainable landscapes and knowledge of and participation in sustainable landscape metrics.

The research team includes:

  • Sohyun Park, ASLA, SITES AP, Assistant Professor, University of Connecticut Department of Plant Science and Landscape Architecture and ASLA Ecology & Restoration Professional Practice Co-Chair
  • Michael Ross, ASLA, SITES AP, Assistant Professor, School of Landscape Architecture, The University of Tennessee – Knoxville
  • Kathryn Nelson, ASLA, SITES AP, Instructor, Department of Landscape Architecture, Texas Tech University
  • Olivia Ross, SITES AP, Hinoki Designs

The team seeks to understand regional variances in people’s awareness, exposure, experience, and perceptions of sustainable landscapes and the SITES® rating system, along with a separate analysis of SITES® adoption patterns across the country.

“The survey outcomes will help frame the conversation around the importance of shaping sustainable and resilient landscapes in times of climate crisis,” explained Sohyun Park, “as well as our roles, expertise, and opportunities to promote ecosystem services and to implement advanced landscape practices and sustainability metrics programs.”

The anonymized data will be used only for research purposes, and the research findings will be communicated at scholarly and professional venues including the Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture (CELA) conference, and through ASLA and the Sustainable SITES Initiative.

Please take a few minutes and fill out the anonymous online survey – and share the link with others.
