ASLA Joins STEMx in the Fight to Close STEM Proficiency Gaps, Starting with Washington, D.C.

More than half the careers fueling the growth of our cities require proficiency in STEM-related subjects. In 2014, only half the students in the District of Columbia met STEM proficiency standards, leaving most students unprepared to fill these positions.

Join ASLA in helping STEMx close the STEM proficiency gap in your state. STEMx is a multi-state STEM network which provides an accessible platform to share, analyze, and disseminate quality STEM education tools to transform education, expand the number of STEM teachers, increase student achievement in STEM, and grow tomorrow’s innovators.

Here’s how your ASLA chapter can get involved:

  • Click here and see if your state is among the 19 state STEMx networks. If your state is within the network, click onto your state and learn about their structure and initiatives. You may find that their efforts are led by your local university.
  • Place a call or send an email to their point of contact. Inform them that ASLA headquarters is a member of the DC STEM Network and express your interest in joining their local network.
  • While you wait for a response, explore the benefits of working within this state-wide STEMx network.
  • Explore Tools & Resources, using Topic and Grade Level filters, as you consider your state’s needs.
  • Email Career Discovery and Diversity and let us know how we can help or if you still have questions.
