Celebrating Another Year with the ACE Mentor Program

ASLA is a proud sponsor of the ACE Mentor Program of America Inc. (ACE), a national effort to engage high school students in substantive, in-depth projects and exercises that expose them to real-life work in the full range of design and construction professions.

Below, ASLA member Shawn Balon shares how he became an ACE Mentor and provides tips to assist you in making the first steps to becoming a volunteer.

ACE functions in various regions of the United States and coordinates their volunteers and registration processes differently, so contact your local ACE affiliate and ask about their volunteer program and guidelines.

ASLA’s partnership with ACE doesn’t stop at mentoring.

Each year, as part of ASLA’s annual meeting, ASLA supports ACE in kicking off a Legacy Project as a gift to the host city of the annual meeting and EXPO. The host chapter teams up with the local affiliate of the ACE Mentor Program to design a project and install it after the meeting. Many EXPO exhibitors donate products and plants each year for the project, allowing ASLA to give back to the city that hosts the meeting. Learn about past Legacy Projects highlighted during the annual meeting.
