SAVE THE DATE! National Day of Design Takes Place November 8, 2018

Mark your calendars—November 8 is the 2018 National Day of Design, an innovative design challenge that encourages real-world critical thinking, communication, teamwork, and overall Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) skills.

ASLA is a proud supporter of the 2018 National Day of Design and the organization behind it, STEM Connector. STEM Connector is a thriving network of pioneering leaders across more than 200 organizations invested in growing a STEM-ready workforce.

Coinciding with National STEM/STEAM Day, the theme of 2018 Day of Design is Food Rescuers: STEM Innovations to Reduce Food Waste.

Day of Design is a project-based learning opportunity that reminds students that each of us has a role to play in solving complex global challenges at the local level – and that STEM thinking applies both in and outside the classroom.

Let's show the world how landscape architects design innovative solutions to food waste!

Need some ideas?

  • Host a food-waste challenge event at your firm or in your neighborhood.
  • Spread the word about your work around food waste as a landscape architect.
  • Take Landscape Architecture to a local school or community – here is how to get started. This video shows how local corporations in Houston, Texas worked with Klein Independent School District students to build prototypes for flood prevention after Hurricane Harvey.
  • Team up with your local science museum and host a food waste challenge. See how one Science Museum exhibits its rubbish – in pictures

Share your Day of Design with photos, videos, quotes, and stories of your students, staff or ASLA chapter members participating in the Mission by using #DayofDesign2018 and tagging @STEMconnector and @NationalASLA.
