Advocacy Websummit Series, Part 2: Site Visits

On June 7, ASLA State Government Affairs hosted the second Advocacy Websummit of the four-part advocacy training series. The event highlighted the importance of hosting site tours with elected officials and provided step-by-step guidance on conducting tours, The key tour components discussed included selecting a site, preparing and organizing the tour, making the invitation, conducting a tour, and implementing post-tour follow-up.

Guest speaker Matt Stegman, chief-of-staff to Maryland State Delegate Maggie McIntosh, discussed his experiences attending site tours and provided a list of tour do’s and don’ts from the legislative staff/legislative member perspective. Websummit attendees also received a brief summary of ASLA’s federal Advocacy Day held in Washington, D.C., April 6-9, and a refresher on the benefits of using social media and Twitter in achieving legislative successes.

Part three of the advocacy training series, the annual in-person ASLA Advocacy Summit, is being held in Indianapolis August 12-14, 2016. The Advocacy Summit brings together ASLA chapter leaders in advocacy from across the country to learn about and share best practices in advocacy as well receive training on implementing useful and efficient advocacy tools with an emphasis on licensure.
