Restoration Project Design

Date: 9/13/2018 - 9/13/2018

Type: Lectures

LA CES approved?: Yes

Location(s): Washington

Description: Class attendees will learn about the restoration project design process in order to plan and implement more successful and cost-effective ecological restoration projects. They will learn how to develop a design that meets project goals with the given site conditions and how to respond adaptively to unexpected changes.

After an overview of project development and implementation topics, attendees will be split into teams to perform a field site assessment and develop this assessment into a project design plan. Project objective development, site preparation, installation, maintenance and monitoring, and working within known and unanticipated constraints to create an actionable and practical design will be discussed in the context of the design exercise.

Class attendees will also be given time to discuss their own project design challenges and will leave the class better able to identify important considerations for successfully planning their own projects.

Lunch is included.

Taught by Rachael West, EarthCorps and Rodney Pond, Edmonds Community College and Sound Salmon Solutions
