Women in Landscape Architecture-Newsletter-Fall 2003 Newsletter Image
LETTER FROM THE CHAIR
by Valorie Hennigan
Greetings to current and new members! The email listserve, established in 2000, has become an important communication link for the Women In Landscape Architecture (WILA). It offers the opportunity for group members to converse, ask questions, and forward information directly to our members. It is easy to send out a message; just send an email to aslapig.womeninland scapearchitecture @asla.org. Once your message is sent, it will be delivered to everyone on ASLA’s email list for the WILA email group. It is important to keep your email address current. If you would like to add your email address to the group list, please contact Susan Cahill at ASLA at scahill@asla.org.

A new benefit, the WILA website, is now available to the members of the professional interest group. Check it out at http://www.asla.org/Members/pigroups.cfm. Click on “Women in Landscape Architecture” and you will go directly to the website. The website contains officer and contact information for the professional interest group, membership information, and links to other related websites. The site has a calendar of events page where upcoming events can be posted. There is a newsletter page, where we will post the WILA Newsletters in PDF file format, as well as other publications, notices, and documents of interest. As a member of the Women in Landscape Architecture professional interest group, you will determine the content of the WILA site. Please send articles, events, notices, photos and other information pertaining to landscape architecture and/or women in landscape architecture to Valorie Hennigan, Chair, 10402 Barretts Delight Dr. #E, Cockeysville, MD 21030/ Vhennigan@netzero.net or Valorie_Hennigan@URS Corp.com. Submissions need to be in an electronic format to assist in prompt uploading to the website.

In response to the continued interest in finding avenues for women to network and collaborate together as professionals, the mentor program, which was reestablished in October 2001, currently has 26 individuals participating in the program. We need to find volunteer mentors for several individuals interested in being matched with mentors. If you are interested in becoming a mentor or need a mentor, please complete and return the mentor/mentored information sheet. The goal of the mentor program is to provide opportunities for women by connecting with LA professionals through networking, mentoring, and collaboration. In our ongoing effort to provide networking opportunities, this issue of the newsletter features an article on corporate mentoring.

Sincerely, Valorie Hennigan, ASLA
