Meeting Before the Meeting Walking Tour
by Marguerite Koepke, ASLA, and Jack Carman, FASLA

The 2010 ASLA Annual Meeting in Washington DC will be here before we know it. If you are planning on attending the Annual Meeting, how about joining us for a tour of some of the important DC sites?  A small group of interested people has organized a “Meeting Before the Meeting Walking Tour’” on Thursday, September 9th. We would like to spend the day visiting sites on and along the Mall to generate discussions on how they relate to our common interest in therapeutic gardens. We will be starting the day visiting the rooftop garden and labyrinth at the American Psychological Association. We will be moving on from there to the Margaret Hagedorn Rose Garden at the United States Botanic Garden, and the gardens at the National Museum of the American Indian. Lunch will be at the National Gallery of Art. We then will tour the “People’s Garden” at the United States Department of Agriculture. Our final stop will be the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. It is a garden-filled day to share ideas and observations with colleagues.

You can meet in the morning or join us in the afternoon, depending upon your travel plans. We will be sending the itinerary and RSVP information to members of the PPN two weeks before the meeting. There is no charge for the tour. The only cost will be to pay for your own lunch. We will hope to continue the conversation at the PPN meeting at the Convention Center at 5:00-6:30 on Sunday. Be sure to RSVP for the event through the Ning site that will be provided in the upcoming email. You can then email us with any questions you may have.

We hope you can join us!

Jack Carman,
