Electronic Networking:
Listservs and e-Community Networks

Mechanisms for PPN-wide Electronic Discussions

ASLA is transitioning to a new communication tool: e-Community Networks, which are replacing the PPNs’ email listservs for most functions. While Chairs and ASLA staff may occasionally post notices of general interest to the listservs, the listservs are no longer intended for general discussion.

How to Participate in the e-Community Network

PPN members will visit the website for their e-Community Network by logging in on the ASLA homepage. Instructions for navigating the e-Community Networks are posted online. Unlike current PPN websites, the e-Community Network website will allow members to contribute to threaded discussions. Members will be able to participate in current discussions or initiate new ones. The e-Community Networks will also include informational items and documents of interest to PPN members. Members may suggest items to the group’s chair for posting to the e-community.

e-Community Networks vs. PPN Websites

e-Community Networks will not replace current PPNs’ websites, but will supplement them. The current websites are accessible to all internet users, and will remain so. Accordingly, their information will be limited to newsletters, contact information, and other items of general interest suitable for viewing by both members and non-members of PPNs. The e-Community Networks, on the other hand, are password protected, and available only to PPN members.

And did you know...

All ASLA members are invited to join the Landscape Architecture Electronic Discussion Group (LARCH-L)*. The wide-ranging discussions cover many practice areas and issues. LARCH-L is an excellent opportunity for cross-pollination and networking. LARCH-L is managed by Syracuse University.

*ASLA member log-in required before joining LARCH-L.
