Travel and Hotel Information

Rail:

Amtrak is offering a 10 percent discount on lowest fares to Philadelphia from September 30 through October 10, 2008.  To book your reservation, call Amtrak at (800) 872-7245 and refer to Convention Fare Code X86R-932.  This discount is not available on fares booked via the Internet or for the Auto Train.

Air:

Visit GoodShop, www.goodsearch.com/goodshop.aspx, and designate the ASLA Fund as your charity when booking your air fare and GoodShop will make a contribution on your behalf.  Choose the GoodShop link to Cheap Tickets, Expedia, Orbitz, Priceline, STA, Travelocity, Alaska, Frontier, Delta, or United and the ASLA Fund will receive anywhere from $1 to 15 percent of your fare as a contribution.

Public Transportation:

Once in Philadelphia, regional rail, subways, buses, and trolleys are easily accessible options to travel to meeting hotels and around the city. Visit SEPTA for information about public transportation including maps, schedules, and fares.

Attendees arriving at Philadelphia International Airport can access SEPTA’s regional rail (R-1) at the airport baggage claim area. The train runs every half hour and stops at all baggage claim areas. Exit the train at "Market East/The Gallery," which is directly UNDER the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown. From the station, it is a short walk to all the ASLA meeting hotels.

TerraPass:

TerraPass

The 2008 ASLA Annual Meeting & EXPO will be ASLA’s greenest meeting yet!  Annual meeting attendees can do their part to offset their personal carbon footprint as well.  ASLA has partnered with TerraPass to provide meeting attendees a convenient option to offset their carbon dioxide emissions as they travel to and from the meeting in Philadelphia.

Since travel is a major contributor to carbon dioxide emissions, annual meeting attendees are encouraged to offset their travel arrangements (flights, rental cars, etc.) by purchasing a TerraPass.

Help make the 2008 meeting our greenest yet!  Purchase your TerraPass today!

Explore Philadelphia

Philadelphia has been ranked by WalkScore as the fifth most walkable city in the United States. Plan your walking tours around Philadelphia using Google Maps, which now offers a walking map feature. Simply visit http://maps.google.com/, click “Get Directions,” enter your starting and ending points, and select “Walking” from the drop down menu.

ASLA Annual Meeting Hotels

Hotel:

Attendees are asked to stay in one of the seven official ASLA annual meeting hotels where special rates have been negotiated.  By staying at an official ASLA hotel, attendees help ASLA negotiate better rates at top hotels for future annual meetings.  Be sure to identify yourself as an ASLA annual meeting attendee when booking your room to ensure you receive your discount and ASLA receives credit for your stay.  Room rates listed do not include the state and local taxes.  ASLA room blocks will sell out quickly and special rates expire on September 9, 2008.

The websites listed below will take you directly to the ASLA discounted rooms. For those hotels that do not show a website, please make your reservations by phone.

Designing a More Sustainable Meeting

ASLA continues to reduce the carbon footprint of the annual meeting and 2008 will be the greenest meeting yet. The official meeting hotels and the Pennsylvania Convention Center are located within walking distance of each other, eliminating the need for shuttle buses. The hotels, convention center, show decorator, transportation company, and other vendors with whom ASLA contracts services must demonstrate a commitment to sustainable practices. ASLA’s printed materials, signage, and decorations are recycled, recyclable, and printed with soy ink. The meeting handouts will be distributed electronically. Meeting attendees may do their part by traveling to the meeting via Amtrak, purchasing a TerraPass, or arranging air travel through GoodShop (see Travel and Hotel Information).
