With nearly 450 exhibitors, the ASLA EXPO is the largest trade show in the industry. Explore hundreds of new products, services, technology applications, and design solutions—all under one roof. Full registrants will receive a $15 concessions voucher to be used at the EXPO concession stand. For your convenience, a number of popular activities will be located in the EXPO this year:

JobLink LIVE: Participate in JobLink LIVE to find great new employees for your firm or a rewarding new position for yourself. Representatives from private firms, public agencies, and academic institutions will be on hand to conduct interviews and review résumés. Employers may host a tabletop display for only $300 (see registration form) and employers and prospective employees may schedule interviews online ahead of the meeting.

Federal Agency Outreach: Meet with representatives of key federal agencies to discuss their planning and landscape architecture projects, and learn about opportunities for working with them. Invited agencies include: Bureau of Land Management; Natural Resources Conservation Service; Federal Highway Administration; National Park Service; U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; and USDA Forest Service.

ASLA Commons: This year, the ASLA Commons will host many exciting programs. In addition to picking up your free official tote bag and checking on your membership or other ASLA Services, attendees can do the following:

  • Meet the editors of leading industry publications. Chat with Bill Thompson, FASLA, about how he selects projects to feature in Landscape Architecture. Talk with Sylvia Lewis about her 2009 editorial calendar for Planning. Pitch your projects to Jane Kolleeny at GreenSource or a senior editor with Garden Design. These editors and others will be available during EXPO hours to meet one-on-one with attendees.
  • Ask the ASLA Professional Awards Jury how to make a good impression next year. Former professional awards jurors will be on hand to talk one-on-one with attendees about the process, categories, criteria, and how to put your best foot forward with the awards jury. Attendees are encouraged to bring photos or synopses of projects they plan to enter so these former jurors can share specific suggestions for communicating with the 2009 jury. Sign up to meet with ASLA Professional Awards Jurors.
  • Meet with leaders of the ASLA Council of Fellows about the Fellows selection process. More than 4,200 ASLA members are eligible for consideration for nomination to the Council of Fellows this year. Former jurors and current leaders of the Council of Fellows will be on hand to meet with eligible members and chapter leaders about the process, categories, criteria, and how to put together a solid nomination. Attendees are encouraged to bring a curriculum vitae or résumé so these leaders can offer specific advice. Sign up to meet with leaders of the ASLA Council of Fellows.

ASLA/ULI Bookstore: Pick up your signed copy of Green Infrastructure. Browse the latest titles for landscape architecture professionals and take advantage of your ASLA discount. Meet prominent authors and have your books signed during the EXPO Reception Saturday afternoon from 4:00 to 6:00 pm and during the EXPO Afternoon Tea and Raffle on Sunday afternoon from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.

ASMP Photo Studio: Want to have a photo shoot with a professional photographer, but don’t know who to call, can’t find the time, or are just camera shy? The American Society of Media Photographers will host a portrait studio in the EXPO and provide attendees with complimentary electronic portraits in black and white and color. Sign up for your complimentary sitting ahead of time. Full meeting registration required.

Saturday EXPO Reception: Stop by the EXPO Saturday evening between 4:00 and 6:00 pm to enjoy wine and hors d’oeuvres with exhibitors and colleagues, meet prominent authors at the book signing, and celebrate the largest gathering of landscape architecture professionals in the world.

Sunday EXPO Afternoon Tea and Raffle: Spend Sunday touring the EXPO and entering the raffle to win fabulous trips, rare wines, and many other luxury items. Meet additional prominent authors at the book signing and have a nosh between 3:00 and 5:00 pm as raffle winners are announced to tide you over to the Gala that evening.

Don’t miss the most important annual event for landscape architecture professionals!

Designing a More Sustainable Meeting

ASLA continues to reduce the carbon footprint of the annual meeting and 2008 will be the greenest meeting yet. The official meeting hotels and the Pennsylvania Convention Center are located within walking distance of each other, significantly reducing the need for shuttle buses. The hotels, convention center, show decorator, transportation company, and other vendors with whom ASLA contracts services must demonstrate a commitment to sustainable practices. ASLA’s printed materials, signage, and decorations are recycled, recyclable, and printed with soy ink. The meeting handouts will be distributed electronically. Meeting attendees may do their part by traveling to the meeting via Amtrak, purchasing a TerraPass, or arranging air travel through GoodShop (see Travel and Hotel Information).
