 2005 Annual Meeting & EXPO > Home

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

The ASLA Annual Meeting & EXPO has always provided a unique opportunity to gather as a profession to explore and celebrate the best in landscape architecture—and this year is no exception. It is my privilege and pleasure to invite you to join me in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for the 2005 ASLA Annual Meeting & EXPO.

In keeping with this year’s theme, Winds of Change, Keys to the Future, we’ve worked hard to bring you top-notch educational programming that will help you manage the winds of change in our profession and in our communities. In addition, we’ve selected an outstanding roster of keynote speakers, including the Honorable Joseph P. Riley Jr., Honorary ASLA, mayor of Charleston, South Carolina; 2004 Nobel Peace Laureate Wangari Muta Maathai (invited); Laurie D. Olin, FASLA, Principal, Olin Partnership, Ltd., and Susan S. Szenasy, Editor-in-Chief, Metropolis magazine.

Thanks to the Florida Chapter, we’ll also have a great lineup of field sessions to help you explore the Fort Lauderdale area and its landscape architecture. Known as the “Venice of America,” Fort Lauderdale boasts 23 miles of Blue Wave beaches and 300 miles of inland waterways. In contrast, South Florida is bordered on the west by the Everglades, a rich and diverse ecosystem teeming with unique flora and fauna. As you might expect, the Fort Lauderdale area offers a fascinating array of natural and built landscapes.

I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our profession, share ideas with friends and colleagues, and learn about the latest technologies, methods, and products. I look forward to seeing you in Fort Lauderdale!

Patrick A. Miller, Ph.D., FASLA
