CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDIT
Earn continuing education credit toward maintenance of your state license
(where mandated) with 79 education session opportunities from which to
select. With eight topic tracks featuring the leading experts in the profession,
you will find plenty of choices that meet your licensure requirements
and your practice needs.
ASLA will use an electronic tracking system for education sessions to
provide attendance verification for credits. Session monitors will scan
attendees’ name badges outside education session rooms. To maintain
the integrity of the system, badges will only be scanned for the first
15 minutes of each session. A record of attended sessions will be mailed
after the annual meeting to attendees participating in this system. Attendees
may use this record as part of the information they submit to state boards
to satisfy reporting requirements. ASLA is applying to have the educational
sessions approved by the Florida Board of Landscape Architecture.
In addition to taking advantage of the education sessions, attendees
may earn continuing education credit by attending the EXPO and General
Sessions or by participating in annual meeting tours. Depending on state
regulations for reporting attendance at these events, you will want to
keep track of the sessions you attend as well as handouts and your registration
confirmation (for example, for an event such as a tour).
Currently, the following states require continuing education for licensed
landscape architects:
Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Iowa,
Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Jersey, New
Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee,
Texas, and Wyoming.
The
Florida Board of Landscape Architecture has approved 64 courses to be
presented during the 2004 ASLA Annual Meeting as qualifying for continuing
education requirements for licensure in Florida. You must include your
Florida license number on your registration form to receive credit for
the sessions you attend. If your Florida license number is not on your
registration form, ASLA cannot guarantee that you will receive credit
for your attendance. Following the meeting, ASLA will submit your attendance
verification to the Florida Board of Landscape Architects
STATE LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
States have varying requirements with regard to session attendance documentation
as well as how many Continuing Education Units (CEU) or Professional Development
Hours (PDH) may be acquired at the ASLA Annual Meeting.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING
Professional. Student, and Premier Guest registrants are permitted
to attend the education sessions; the meeting badges for those individuals
will include the scannable bar code. In many instances, email addresses
have been provided in the descriptions of the education sessions; feel
free to contact those speakers to make inquiries about the sessions. On
Friday, new education sessions with a mobile component are offered, featuring
specialized topics, smaller class sizes, and visits to the actual sites
under discussion.

ATTENTION STUDENTS: LOOKING FOR A WAY TO DEFRAY COSTS FOR ATTENDING THE
ASLA ANNUAL MEETING?
ASLA is looking for students to serve as room monitors in the education
sessions. This is a paid position that can help defray costs for attending
the meeting, is a great way to network with the speakers and other meeting
attendees, AND you just might learn a thing or two in the process!
Registration for the annual meeting is a requirement. Responsibilities
include assisting with the room’s audio visual equipment, checking
badges at the door, handing out and collecting evaluation forms, taking
a head count, and managing the electronic tracking system, which helps
landscape architects verify their education session attendance for licensure
requirements.
All sessions will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis and
you will be paid a modest fee per session worked. If you work a total
of four or more education sessions, you will be reimbursed the student
member early bird meeting registration fee within a month after the meeting
ends.
Take a moment to review the meeting program and select the session(s)
you feel would be the most beneficial to your particular interests and
then contact JoAnn Brown, Meeting Manager, at (202) 216-2333 or jbrown@asla.org.
