8:30am-9:30am Reconvene at the Civic Center Auditorium. World-renowned photographer Courtney Milne will at last make his presentation originally scheduled for last year's Montreal meeting. At the conclusion of the session, "76 Trombones" will lead to the grand opening of the EXPO in the McEnery Convention Center. Courtney Milne will conduct a visual odyssey through the incredible beauty of sacred landscapes drawn from all seven continents. Natural sites such as Angel Falls in Venezuela and Kilauea in Hawaii; places of ancient mystery; monuments; and architecture such as Easter Island and Machu Picchu have inspired humanity from antiquity to the present. Milne's stunning and dynamic images affect people in a powerful way, reaching beyond the documentation of the earth to find the spirit in the land--the spirit that we all recognize at some level deep within ourselves. These images and Milne's narration meld into a potent stimulus that often evokes a highly personal and emotional response, frequently leading viewers to a reevaluation of the quality of their lives and how that quality is nourished by the world around them. Born in 1943 in Saskatoon, Canada, Milne has been a freelance photographer since 1975, concentrating on landscape and nature. In addition to formal training in photography, his academic background includes two master's degrees-in psychology, and in journalism and mass communication. He has written more than 180 illustrated articles for photographic magazines and produced three popular books of photography highlighting the Canadian prairies: Prairie Light, Prairie Dreams, and Prairie Skies. He has conducted workshops, seminars, and worldwide photographic tours, and has presented more than 200 public performances of his multimedia shows. To date, he has made more than 420,000 exposures, photographing in forty countries and on all seven continents. Most of this work is part of his current project, a series of books, The Sacred Earth Collection. In 1993, he was awarded the Gold Medal for Distinction in Canadian Photography.
