The ASLA Executive Committee met by conference call early this afternoon and voted unanimously to cancel the 2001 ASLA Annual Meeting. The decision was a difficult and an emotional one to make. However, after weighing all of the factors involved--including security, continuing transportation uncertainties, and the concerns expressed by many ASLA members, leaders, and exhibitors--the committee felt strongly that canceling the meeting was the responsible course of action. A personal message from ASLA President Leonard Hopper, FASLA, will follow shortly. In addition to canceling your air travel, Meetings Director Martha Montague asks that you also remember to cancel your hotel reservations. ASLA will provide partial reimbursement for registration fees for both attendees and exhibitors. Additional information on reimbursements will be provided within the next two weeks. Please bear with us as we deal with all of the logistic issues involved and go through the process of assessing the overall financial impact of the meeting cancellation. We very much appreciate your support, your patience, and your encouragement as we have worked through to this decision.
