2014 BSLA Awards Announced
BSLA’s highly regarded awards program celebrates the work of Massachusetts and Maine landscape architects and landscape architectural work in the two states.

The BSLA seeks to recognize excellence in the diverse practices of our members. To that end, all members are encouraged to submit their best work for review by the program jury. Winning projects demonstrated excellence and reflected the careful stewardship, wise planning, and artful design of our cultural and natural environment.

This year, the Award of Excellence was given to Reed Hilderbrand for their project, “From Disaster to Restart: Houston Arboretum,” in which they framed a series of management strategies for the short and long term that engage the dynamic processes of ecological change and aim for a more diverse, robust, and resilient landscape of native prairies, wooded ravines, and riparian corridors endemic to southeast Texas.

ASLA-NCC Legacy Lecture: Peter Walker, FASLA
March 31, 6:30–9:30 p.m.
Landscape architect Peter Walker’s decades-long career includes enough professional highlights to fill several careers, among them the 9/11 Memorial in New York. How he, as a landscape architect, translates a patron’s vision will be among the subjects covered in a West Coast legacy lecture/interview with Walker by Charles A. Birnbaum, founder and president of the Cultural Landscape Foundation.

Walker and Birnbaum are knowledgeable, opinionated, and bring great perspective, which should make for a very lively evening. This event, made possible by the Northern California chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects, will be held at UCB’s Wurster Hall. The interview will also be filmed as part of the foundation’s oral history series.
