2012 Park(ing) Day
September 21, 2012
8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Indianapolis, IN

PARK(ing) Day is an annual open-source global event where citizens, artists and activists collaborate to temporarily transform metered parking spaces into “PARK(ing)” spaces: temporary public places. The project began in 2005 when Rebar, a San Francisco art and design studio, converted a single metered parking space into a temporary public park in downtown San Francisco. Since 2005, PARK(ing) Day has evolved into a global movement, with organizations and individuals (operating independently of Rebar but following an established set of guidelines) creating new forms of temporary public space in urban contexts around the world.

The mission of PARK(ing) Day is to call attention to the need for more urban open space, to generate critical debate around how public space is created and allocated, and to improve the quality of urban human habitat … at least until the meter runs out!

Park(ing) Day
September 21, 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Arts District of downtown Las Vegas

NASLA and COLABlv are collaborating on creating a Park(ing) Day space in downtown Las Vegas. This spot will be more than simply a parklet. Not only will it be re-envisioned as a greenspace, it will also serve to invite the neighborhood to explore what they want and need in downtown Las Vegas. In conjunction with COLABlv and to help kickoff the Downtown Backyard Project, the parking spot redesign will celebrate what landscape architecture is and how landscape architects seek to transform spaces, even
dense urban, paved spaces. Please contact info@nvasla.com for more information.

Watershed and Stormwater Conference
Monday, October 8, 2012
7:00 a.m.
Duration: 3 Days

Watershed management has become a multidisciplinary effort that engages an entire team, from the professional geologists and hydrologists who enhance our understanding of the movement of water across and under the land, to the scientists and engineers who conduct research and develop the tools for implementing best management practices, to the citizens who live in the watershed and witness the day to day activities that influence its health. In today's complex world of budgets and regulations, the field of watershed management must also include environmental economists and enforcement professionals in order to effectively navigate and implement the tools of watershed protection. The topics of the 2012 Watershed and Stormwater Conference include both wide ranging topics to address the needs of this varied audience while ensuring an offering of new and emerging ideas in the field.
