Professional Jury Chair Shares Winning Strategies with Students
May 9 is the entry deadline for the 2008 Student Awards.
Students competing in the 2008 ASLA Student Awards should submit their entry forms and payments by Friday, May 9. ASLA will then send entrants the official submission binders to return no later than Friday, May 23. As students prepare their entry binders, they often have many questions, the most common being “What makes a winning entry presentation?” ASLA posed this question to 2008 Professional Awards Jury Chair Warren T. Byrd, FASLA, who offered several suggestions on what students should consider when entering projects.
- Submit a few beautiful images, rather than many average ones.
- Write clear, concise narratives and captions that relate directly to submitted images.
- Follow the entry instructions and keep it simple.
- Organize and proofread submissions.
- Resubmit projects from previous years.
- Submit the entry forms and binder on time.
The complete award-winning strategies article offers detailed suggestions for improving awards entries. Students can also visit the 2007 Student Awards winners to review award-winning projects and juror comments, which may aid in the submission process for the following categories:
ASLA will honor award recipients and their advisers at the awards presentation ceremony and a special champagne reception during the ASLA Annual Meeting & EXPO in Philadelphia, October 3–7, 2008. Award recipients will receive a complimentary full registration to the 2008 annual meeting, and Award of Excellence recipients will receive complimentary travel and hotel accommodations.
