A MESSAGE TO STUDENTS FROM THE PRESIDENT

I hope you are having a great 2008. I already have spring fever and ASLA has some exciting initiatives for students that I want to share with you. Here are three things to do right now:

  1. Check out the summer internships posted on JobLink and post your résumé.
Internships are the perfect way to get hands-on experience and build your portfolio. For the months of February, March, and April, ASLA is offering free internship postings to firms. Several great opportunities are already posted, with more on the way.

Click here and select “Internship” from the “Career Category” drop-down menu to begin planning your summer. If you’re graduating and looking for full-time employment, check out the job postings and post your résumé—our latest economic survey says nearly half of firms are hiring this year!

  2. Sign up for our ASLA Facebook group and help spread the word.
The “American Society of Landscape Architects” group is now live on Facebook and features links, photos, and videos of award-winning projects. In preparation for April’s National Landscape Architecture Month, I am challenging you to join the ASLA Facebook group and invite at least one non-landscape architecture major or high school student to join as well. Let’s spread the word about landscape architecture.

  3. Update your email account with ASLA so we can stay in touch this summer.
Please give us your permanent email address (a Gmail or Yahoo! account, for example) so we can stay connected during the summer and after you graduate. Contact Member Services to update your record. How can we tell you about all this great stuff if we can’t reach you?

Keep in touch!

Perry Howard, FASLA
President
American Society of Landscape Architects
