Attention Annual Meeting Attendees: Offset Your Carbon Footprint
In efforts to make a more sustainable Annual Meeting, ASLA partners with TerraPass to offset attendees' carbon footprints.

The 2007 ALSA Annual Meeting & EXPO will be ASLA’s greenest meeting yet! To demonstrate its stewardship of the environment, ASLA has incorporated sustainable initiatives into many facets of this year’s meeting.

Annual meeting attendees can do their part to offset their personal carbon footprint as well. ASLA has partnered with TerraPass to provide meeting attendees a convenient option to offset their carbon dioxide emissions as they travel to and from the 2007 annual meeting in San Francisco.

Since air travel is a major contributor to carbon dioxide emissions, annual meeting attendees are encouraged to offset their travel arrangements (flights, rental cars, etc.) by using a TerraPass. Revenue from TerraPass purchases fund clean energy projects that reduce emissions from both carbon dioxide and greenhouse gas.

It is easy and inexpensive to purchase a TerraPass and support ASLA’s sustainable efforts. For example, a TerraPass to cover a roundtrip flight from Washington, DC, to San Francisco is less than $10.00. Just follow the step-by-step instructions below.

NOTE: It is very important to calculate usage before trying to purchase the pass.

  1. Visit www.terrapass.com/asla.
  2. Select the “TerraPass for Flight” link located toward the bottom of the page.
  3. Click “Get started.” This will take you to a page entitled, “See how much CO2 your flying puts in the air.”
  4. Enter the departure and arrival airports in the fields provided. Click the “Add flights to your profile” link to display the flight emissions profile.
  5. Click the link that begins with “Balance out your…”
  6. Review the recommended type of TerraPass and click the “Add to Cart” button.
  7. Review your cart and select “Checkout.”
  8. Enter your payment address. Click “Continue.”
  9. Continue to enter payment details. At the bottom of the page, when prompted, "How did you hear..." select “ASLA.”
  10. Hit “Continue” to finalize payment method and complete the order.

Depending on which TerraPass is purchased, participants receive a small gift – usually a luggage tag. The luggage tag can be used when traveling to not only reduce carbon dioxide emissions and easily identify a bag, but also as a conversation-starter to encourage others to do their part to combat global warming. Participants have the option to exchange the gift in favor of even more carbon emissions reductions.

By partnering with TerraPass, ASLA provides annual meeting attendees a convenient option to reduce carbon dioxide emissions as they travel to and from the 2007 meeting. By using the ASLA link, ASLA can track the total carbon offset number from attendees using a TerraPass.

For more information about TerraPass, its projects and partners, visit www.terrapass.com.
