New LATIS Publication: Green Roof Infrastructure
ASLA is pleased to announce the latest release in the Landscape Architecture Technical Information Series (LATIS): Green Roof Infrastructure, by Steven Peck, Honorary ASLA, and president of Green Roofs for Healthy Cities. Part I of the publication focuses on the history, benefits, components, and construction of green roofs. Although green roofs have a longer history in Europe than in North America, their popularity here is growing. Readers will learn about the differences between intensive and extensive green roofs, benefits to both the public and private sectors, alternative methods of construction, components that are common to all green roofs, and maintenance. The role of the landscape architect in green roof design and construction is also discussed.
Part II of the publication begins with a contribution from David Yocca, ASLA, offering a landscape architect’s perspective on some green roof issues. A section of illustrated project profiles follows. The profiles feature a broad scope of recent ASLA and Green Roofs for Healthy Cities award winners and show the use of green roofs in a wide variety of settings, locations, and climates. Part II concludes with an expanded project profile: the story of ASLA’s green roof project, with contributions from Chris Counts, ASLA, of Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, the project’s manager.
This LATIS should be of interest to a range of readers, from those already familiar with green roof technologies to those for whom the topic is new. LATIS publications are available at no charge to ASLA members and at a cost of $50 to nonmembers. Members and nonmembers have the opportunity to receive continuing education credit by passing a self-administered test on the LATIS contents. For details, and to access the publication, click here.
