Green Roofs and Green Products

The momentum to go GREEN has been steadily growing the last few years. More and more products and building practices are taking conservation and energy use into consideration.
…At the headquarters for the American Society of Landscape Architects at 636 I Street NW is one of Washington DC's first green roofs. Along with the aesthetic and environmental benefits, the roof has lowered electrical usage by 10% and the roof itself is likely to last 2 to 3 times longer than an ordinary roof. The roof has 2 "waves" that are planted with flowers and grasses.

SF: SEVEN LANDSCAPE PROJECTS AND DESIGNERS TO BE AWARDED

An affordable housing project called the Curran House in San Francisco's Tenderloin neighborhood that offers peaceful green spaces, a sprinkling of gardens and private balconies has drawn national attention to its designer. The Andrea Cochran Landscape Architecture firm is scheduled to receive an award from the American Society of Landscape Architects for the Curran House this year, as well as for the design of a private residence in the city.

San Francisco boasts the highest number of projects or designers to be awarded this year, and has been chosen to host this year's ASLA annual meeting from October 6 to October 9 at the Moscone Convention Center. "We expect the largest gathering of landscape architects in history," ASLA President Patrick W. Caughey said in a statement regarding this year's meeting.
