BWM Group, a landscape architecture and planning firm, announces the addition of two new associates to the firm. Wade Kolb has joined the planning studio bringing 23 years of experience in large scale development. Wade holds a bachelor’s degree in urban and regional planning from University of Louisiana, Lafayette. Amanda Hertl, Associate ASLA has joined the group as a project manager with six years experience in site development as well as public parks and open space development projects. Hertl graduated from the State University of New York with a master’s degree in Landscape Architecture and bachelor of environmental studies from University of Michigan. The firm also announces the addition of two new staff designers, Dustin Barnhill, Associate ASLA, a graduate of Texas Tech University with a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture and Margarita Padilla-Posey, Associate ASLA, a graduate of Texas A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture.

The LA Group, a land planning and design firm located in Saratoga Springs, has promoted four Directors to Associate Principals: David R. Carr, Jr., ASLA, RLA; Donald T. McPherson, ASLA, RLA; Darrell L. Meehl, ASLA, RLA; and David M. Miller, ASLA, RLA.
David Carr, Jr. is the Director of Residential and Commercial Services Studio and has over 20 years of experience in all phases of site analysis, planning and design.
Donald McPherson is the Director of the firm’s Educational/Institutional Studio, and has overseen many of the firm’s significant projects. He is responsible for overall project administration, coordination of staff and consultants, maintenance of strong client communications, quality control and construction administration. Darrell Meehl serves as The LA Group’s Government Projects Director. His supervision and diligent quality control has helped establish national recognition for The LA Group’s design of National and State Veterans Cemeteries. David Miller is the Director of the Public Spaces Studio and has over 16 years of experience in technical production and serves as project manager on numerous streetscape, waterfront, and public space design projects.

Land Design North (LDN), a 15-person landscape architecture firm in Anchorage, Alaska received three awards in 2006. Two of the awards recognized LDN for the firm’s “dedication to improving the quality of life in Alaska’s communities”, its active approach to public involvement, and its significant volunteerism among partners and staff, including dedication of firm time and resources to community service.

Additionally, LDN Partner Terry Schoenthal, ASLA, was awarded a prestigious U.S. Air Force Design Honor Award for Landscape Architecture for his master planning and design work on Elmendorf Air Force Base. Terry was flown to Washington D.C. to receive the award from top brass at the Pentagon.
Mergers
EDAW, the global design, planning, and environmental consultancy firm, and natural resource services firm, Sycamore Associates, of Walnut Creek, California, have merged. With expertise in biological sciences, regulatory compliance and permitting, habitat restoration, resource management and mitigation planning, and a strong client base in northern, central, and coastal California, Sycamore will add considerable depth to EDAW’s established environmental planning and natural resources services, which include over 200 professionals. The combination will allow EDAW to better serve regional clients and will be closely linked with related practices in EDAW offices in San Francisco and Sacramento.
