Firestone Building Products to Exhibit PondGard System
Demonstrating a commitment to the landscape architecture profession, the global company will sponsor the meeting bag for the 2006 Annual Meeting and Expo and 43rd IFLA World Congress.

After more than 25 years as a leader in the commercial roofing industry, Firestone Building Products has expanded its business to include additional markets, including geomembrane retention systems. Firestone now offers landscape architects installing ponds, water features, and constructed wetlands a flexible, easily installed product for these applications—the PondGuard EPDM (ethylene propylene diene terpolymer) Geomembrane.

To help increase the knowledge of this product within the landscape architecture community, Firestone Building Products will be exhibiting at the 2006 Annual Meeting and Expo and 43rd IFLA World Congress, and will sponsor the official meeting bag.

Firestone PondGard EPDM Geomembrane
Based on EPDM synthetic rubber, PondGard is a highly flexible, stable waterproofing membrane. Formulated to be safe for fish and plant life, PondGard can easily be shaped to fit the unique contours of any size pond or landscape feature. Applicable projects range from simple backyard decorative ponds to highly engineered, potable water reservoirs and constructed wetlands applications.

The membrane contours easily with the sub-terrain of riverbeds, waterfalls, pools, or any other water feature. Resistant to microbial attack and algae growth and requiring minimum maintenance once installed, the liner is particularly suitable for use in the construction of landscape ponds and water features designed to enhance office complexes, golf courses, and recreational parks.

PondGard shows outstanding resistance to the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation, ozone, oxidation, and other environmental conditions. It requires little or no regular maintenance once it is installed. One of PondGuard’s distinct advantages is that it is easy to install even in remote areas, as it does not require thermal welding or utilities for installation or repair.

The PondGuard system includes the following features:
Ease of installation—The system comes in a large variety of panel sizes to match a landscape architect’s needs and reduce the amount of field seaming required. When necessary, dependable field seams can be made with Firestone’s QuickSeam Tape System, which requires no special training or expensive equipment to install.

High flexibility—PondGard remains flexible in a variety of temperatures, from -45° F to 180°F, enabling it to be installed year round in a variety of climates and terrain.

High elongation—The membrane can elongate over 300 percent, which enables it to stretch and conform to objects in the substrate.

Superior weathering resistance—PondGard has a documented performance history in exposed applications, exhibiting outstanding resistance to ultraviolet radiation and ozone.

Outstanding aging stability—The membrane is a noncrystalline material. It contains no plasticizers that can migrate and lead to premature membrane failure due to embitterment and cracking.

Fish friendly—The system is made of a specially formulated EPDM membrane that will not harm fish or plant life.
