New Booklet Makes the Case for Urban Parks
ULI pamphlet Parks, People, and Places: Making Parks Accessible to the Community is ideal handout for public meetings.

Order #C70 to buy a pack of 10 for $19.95, or order #C71 to buy a single copy for $10.

Parks are places for fun and recreation, but they also can play a pivotal role in community vitality and renewal. This new booklet examines strategies for successful parks and how to make them accessible to the community. Topics cover principles for planning and design, programming, community participation, public/private partnerships, funding, and management and maintenance. Urban Land Institute studied this topic through a forum that brought together experts from nonprofit parks, associations, planners, and developers.

The booklet is available free online at www.uli.org. Simply click on “Research” from the top navigation bar and select “Policy Papers” from the right hand navigation bar. It is also available as a 24-page color booklet from the ULI bookstore and can be purchased individually or in packs of 10. The booklet makes a great take-away for public meetings.

Through a partnership with the Urban Land Institute, ASLA members can save 10 percent on the retail price of every book in the ULI bookstore, which features new and best-selling titles on everything from downtown revitalization to suburban residential development, shopping centers, and industrial parks. In addition to the member discount, ULI will make a contribution to ASLA education programs for every book a member purchases. Just mention the ASLA discount if you order by phone, or type “ASLA” into the promotional code box when ordering online. Call 800-321-5011, or visit the ULI Bookstore page on the ASLA website for more information.
